Jews of Europe
Acting against the occupation is acting for peace
Statement by the Convention of EJJP held in Paris in May 2004
Our understanding of our Jewish inheritance involves a commitment to work against all kinds of oppression or discrimination. Nowhere is it more important for Jews to do this than in struggle against the oppression and discrimination that is now being carried out in the names of Jews worldwide.
As Jews we refuse to support the current policies of Israel.
As Jews we are unconditionally opposed to the occupation of the Palestinian, to the settlements, to the process of colonisation of these territories and to the constant violations of human rights.
We are convinced that if we really want to act for peace we must act against the occupation, which we see as the principle obstacle to peace in Israel/Palestine today.
In particular we condemn:
• Ferocious repression of, and collective retribution, against civilians in the occupied territories’
• The separation barrier/wall which fragments, impoverishes and imprisons the Palestinian population
• Targeted assassinations
We call for and end to
• Importation of Israeli settlement products i.e. those produced outside the 1967 borders products into Europe • All European commerce with the Israeli military Industrial Complex
We reiterate our call for the suspension of the Israel-EU Association Agreement . An Agreement that confers unmerited privileges on a country that does not respect human rights.
We extent our full support to
• all those Israeli groups such as the Refuseniks and the Bereaved Parents that are struggling against the occupation • all artists, intellectuals, politicians and other individuals who are against the occupation, who support the oppressed Palestinian people and who are attacked and boycotted by the Jewish establishments in Europe.
We refuse to cooperate with artists, academics, politicians and others who support the occupation or represent it.
We therefore appeal to other Jews in Europe to join us in this struggle against the occupation, against oppression, for Palestinian rights and to work for peace with us.
